Nady DM-90 Dynamic Kick Drum Microphone Review

Nady DM-90 Dynamic Kick Drum Microphone
Average Reviews:

A specialized mic, for sure.
I give it 4 stars for the value.

Sure, you can do at least somewhat better if you
move up to the $175+ level, or higher.

But short of that, placed & leveled properly, this baby will more than hold its own.

I'm using the old early-1970s-pattern 4-drum micing right now, and it sounds great:
SM57 on snare;Nady DM-90 inside kick; 2 AKG C1000Bs for overheads (both thru preamps).

We live in an era where engineers have been known to put 3 mics on a snare drum.

Sure, You can keep adding mics to a setup, but it's surprising how good and crisp
and vivid (with good stereo imaging) this 4-drum configuration sounds & records, just as is.

Add a touch of stereo "close-up"/small room reverb
on the overheads, and a bigger, more "majestic" reverb on the snare, and I'm off and running
for classic rock, fusion, power-pop, etc.

And this specialist mic always works well and "gets the job done"
as part of my microphone "team".

I have used one of these mikes for vocals since the early 80's and after all these years of steady road and studio use it still sounds great.Great performance at a great price. If this one was ever lost or stolen, I would replace it with another PL80.

Samson G Track USB Microphone and Audio Interface Review

Samson G Track USB Microphone and Audio Interface
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This will be a nice semi-quick review with a little more technical perspective than a lot of the previous ones.I'm a big home recording nut, who's been on the road a lot the last year, mostly recording with my laptop, this mic, and a full version of Sonar.

First off, the audio quality:
Pretty decent. No noticeable glitches while using.Does sound a little tinny at times, but it's definitely on par with most of my other $100+ mikes (my most expensive one is a $200 Rode).Very usable for recording vocals (singing), but I haven't tried it with an acoustic guitar or other acoustic instruments.VERY-usable-plus for recording spoken words.Frequency range seems decent, but again, I haven't really ran the thing through a full range of applications.

Build quality:
Nice and solid.Almost too heavy though for easy lugging on small trips...but I keep it in the manufacturer's box and slide it in my suitcase, and so far it has made every trip just fine.

Ease of use:
Big plus here, despite a stable Windows OS possibly being as much responsible for the super simple use of the thing as the mic itself.Plug it in via USB, and you're ready to go.No special driver install or software required to get it working.

Extras:
-Line in and headphone out are constructed directly on the mic...this lets you use the mic as a line-in for recording an electronic keyboard or electric guitar directly into your recording software. And then you can use the microphone part of it to record vocals or any acoustic instruments.Nice double-feature to have in the same piece of hardware
-Comes with a very usable desk mic stand
-Comes with all the necessary cables to use right away
-Comes with some scaled-down Cakewalk recording software for your computer

I expected the sound quality would be usable and it is, but I admit the all-in-one extras and the acceptable price were what ultimately snagged me and prompted the one-click order.

Final thoughts:
If you're only doing podcasting (no music or instrument input required), you might consider a lower priced USB mic without the extras.BUT, if you're doing music with the thing, the line-in and line-out features and easy direct monitoring are way nice and worth the price.

Detailed Sound
The microphone's 19mm capsule with 3-micron diaphragm is extremely detailed, and the super-cardioid pick-up pattern makes it ideal for recording vocals, acoustic instruments and just about any other sound source. On the road, in the studio, or in a fixed installation, the solid die-cast construction makes the microphone a reliable audio tool from venue to venue, day in and night out.
The on-board, high quality AD converters with 16 Bit, 48K sampling rate provide better than CD quality recording.

Shure VP64A Omni-directional Dynamic Handheld, Wired Microphone, Color: Black. Review

Shure VP64A Omni-directional Dynamic Handheld, Wired Microphone, Color: Black.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
yes, got mine From amazon.com for testing...
it passes.

actual freq response on this thing
is about 50 to 14 k or so... in
3 db band..

even this mic, as with most XLR type mics
you need to get something like the A85 F
with appropriate cable ( xlr Male to xlr Female
needed ) to boost output to useable levels.

it is CLEAR.
intended really for vocals.. ( interview mic , they say)
but
even ifyou shout into it, doesnt seem to break up.
so
can be used for vocals or backup vocals also.

its OMNIdirectional.. well.. a good part of it anyway.

about 300-600 ohms type..

if you can get it for about usd 60 or so.. landed
into your home, TAKE it.

oh as with most all mics,,,
Proximity effect on this thing is severe.

even ifyou use it without a85f,
do keep at least 8-10 inches AWAY from mic.

if you use a 85f,then one can use it
at12-18 inches away even..
its more clear that way, less booming
and other stuff.

for home studio.. can be used to record vocals too.

will re test on other
instruments to check useability
and report back, one fine day.

in meantime, enjoying this very decent
mic.

take care and go for it.

k

Product Description:
The VP64A is a high-output omnidirectional handheld dynamic microphone designed for professional audio and video production. It combines exceptional performance and comfortable feel with a handsome on-camera appearance. The 7-7/8" (200 mm) long Shure VP64A is ideal for close-up use and can be used outside as well as indoors. The omnidirectional pickup pattern provides uniform pickup on or off axis, eliminating the need for critical microphone positioning. The VP64 series microphones also feature a tailored frequency response with an upper midrange presence rise that adds crispness and clarity to speech. The cartridge utilizes a neodymium magnet for higher output and increased signal-to-noise ratio. An internal rubber isolation mount protects the VP64A microphone cartridge and minimizes handling noise. A water-resistant mesh grille allows the microphone to be used during the most challenging weather conditions. The supplied windscreen further reduces "pop" and wind noise. (Cable not included).
