(More customer reviews)This unit has great voice projection. It is inexpensive so your microphone is not of good qulaity. It is great that you do not need a transmitter for the mic to work. Overall voice projection is good when it does work.Your range is limited for the wireless mic to pick your voice up. As a portabel PA I would recommmend it but you should go out and get a better microphone.

(More customer reviews)BUYER BEWARE: As promising as this product sounds, ours was short-lived.Moreover, it's difficult for us to imagine how another consumer's experience would be any different. Before you purchase, know this, as of 21 December 2009:
1. Battery Life - according to the manufacturer's own technical support staff (whose contact information was very difficult to find) the user can "NEVER overcharge the battery or allow it to drain completely, else the battery CANNOT BE REVIVED." We used our unit just a few times before it stopped working and we suspect this is the reason.Unfortunately, without a built-in gauge or meter to monitor the charge, it's nearly impossible to comply with those instructions.Eventually, you will overcharge or discharge the battery.
2. 90 Day Warranty - if you feel that you cannot live without this product, then take our advise and get an extended warranty if at all possible.
3. Symptoms - at first, our system wouldn't work unless the power chord was plugged directly into the electrical outlet.Then, the unit stopped working altogether - no recharge light, no sound (regardless of the input device - in our case iPods (G4 Nano, G1 iPod, and/or G2 iPod Video), a microphone, and an electric bass guitar).
4. Repair vs. Replacement - luckily we live in the New York Metropolitan area where there usually someone to fix just about anything.Unfortunately, the price quote to diagnose the problem was more costly than purchasing a new product.Getting to the battery was labor intensive, requiring the removal of 22 wood screws.Nearly everything inside was soldered.As for the speaker, forget about ever getting to it without destroying the cabinet - it's glued shut and housed in the bottom compartment.

Finally, as far as we can tell, the: (1) Ion Audio iPA03 Portable PA System, (2) Alesis Transactive Mobile/Portable PA System and (3) PYLE PCMX240I Battery Powered Portable PA System are identical and probably manufactured by the same company.As Shakespeare put it, "A rose by any other name is just as beautiful."The same then is true of lemons - buyer beware.

(More customer reviews)Based on other Pyle portable PA systems reviews, I was excited to purchase and check out this equipment. The reviews were mixed, but overall better than other mfrs' similar items (e.g. Ion, Alesis, etc.).

Sadly, the item was damaged before I even had a chance to test it. The entire inside of the speaker/PA was completely busted. Picking up the speaker outside of the box, I could hear parts rolling from one end of the box to the other. When I took a deeper look inside, a piece of the actual internal speaker was missing.

Additionally, the panel holding the heavy battery was flimsy and would not stay in place. This panel is held by small set of four screws that attached the panel to nowhere on the PA itself (and obviously could not support the weight of the battery). The wires connecting the battery were also loose, but I did manage to get the power going. Of course, the speaker would not amplify any sound when I tested it.

While the PA system does look cheaply made, I'm hoping that the equipment was simply handled poorly during the shipping and handling process, or that even the company's personnel failed to ship a brand new one.

I have requested for a replacement and will submit a review of the item once I receive and test it.
