(More customer reviews)I purchased this Mic, the first I've owned, from an audio shop in Akihabara, Tokyo, over ten years ago. I wanted to practice my voiceover techniques prior to going into a studio to record, where the cost per hour, both in Japan and the US, can be high. Although I've sat in front of many microphones recording professionally, I never really paid any attention to the mic sitting or hanging in front of me. So,
It was by accident, and some luck, that I chose an excellent mic for my needs. It's a very durable mic as I have dropped it a couple of times, which is not recommended, and it shows no negative effects. The sound, to me is natural and seems to reproduce my voice quality accurately. I like the switch and use it when volunteer-recording printed materials for the Braille Institute, in my studio.
Back in LA, in order to compete professionally in Voice Over, I've had to construct my own studio. I've assembled pro equipment and although I've added two additional mics to my equipment, I still use the Shure. I would consider this mic or the Shure SM-57 or 58 as excellent mics for any beginning studio or anyone looking for one high quality mic at a reasonable cost. After all,
It was used on-stage at Woodstock and it's still around. That's quite a recommendation.
